Positive Action: Project Erin and Positively Devia

Sun Nov 4, 2007, 10:17 PM
C4PdA would like to announce our support of :iconhomoshiroi: and Project Erin. The goal is simple: Make a difference in one life by contributing less than 1 minute and 3 kbs of bandwidth a day for a reasonable amount of time.

Please follow this [link] to view the project homepage for the full details. Here is a quick summery for your convenience: If :iconhomoshiroi: gets a simple text file downloaded 5 Million times, she will get $10, 000 to put towards life altering sugeries that will help her with neurological disorders. A quick search of these disorders on wikipedia will tell you that living with just one of the disorders Erin has warrants a medal of honor, but to have both... well, the $10 000 has been well earned.

Now, many are probably thinking this is a scam, but truthfully I downloaded the file, which was a small text document telling Erin's story and have had no problems. Virus scans have all checked out and given that the last hit number I saw for the download was huge, clearly there hasn't been a problem. A quick bit of research on the company revealed that the risk to you, the clickee is null, so get downloading that file.

Clearly this is a positive cause and a time when your smallest action can make a very large impact in the life of another! Lets all reach out across the internet and touch the heart of another! On an interesting note, Neil Gaiman (the man behind the Sandman series and involved with the new movie Beowulf) has linked to Project Erin! If he can do his part for this wonderful woman, so can we!

(Thank you to :iconbeautifulbutch: for bringing this to our attention!)

Now I'd like to also mention that the Positively Deviant awards will rewarded later today! The response has been small, but please check back this evening to see the winners!

EDIT:
So this round of awards has come up with nothing. We had a nomination but unfortunately it didn't pan out. We'll try again at a different date. We plan to review our process and ideas before we make another try.

You are everything I stand opposed to. Kill drama on DA and DA... disappears.
There are two different interpretations of drama in this context. One is unabashed ranting, raving, insulting, degrading behavior; this is the one we are against.

The other definition is creative, insightful, and emotionally charged discourse that encourages the exchange of ideas and feels in a mature fashion. This is the one we wholeheartedly support!

If it's still the case that we are all you stand opposed to, I hope we can continue to share the DA community as we have and continue on our marry ways. If not, I hope that you will consider joining us in the future.

Thank you for you input on this issue, we hope to hear from you again soon!

You missed the 3rd definition - the mass attention craving and popularity frenzy that DA is famous for, where pageviews replace God and the meek are trodden under the iron bootheel of generic fanart and mediocre yaoi. THIS is the soul of DA, no matter how black it may be, and if you try and remove it, DA will collapse in on itself in a whirl of cold ashes.
We are here to show that there is a good and more sophisticated side of the community here to stop DA's reputation from being destroyed even further by that third definiton.

Despite my screenname, I'm actually retro. I made this ridiculous name during my "metro" phase and got the name from "Viewtiful Joe." I don't think I'll be changing my name soon unless I know it's scaring people away from my works of art. XD +B(
It's a possibility, but we're gonna go out trying!
